In the article On the Art of Ceri Richards in The Graphic Works of Ceri Richards by Roberto Sanesi, he writes that starting in 1933 Richards made assemblages of different materials, metal, wood, cardboard and paper to form 'relief constructions' (the artist's description); few of these reliefs have survived apart from a few in private collections. "some of the drawings and sketches that relate to these reliefs are also particularly significant". Two of the reliefs are in the Tate Gallery collection
In the Tate Gallery collection there are other drawings of the 1930s perod relating to the same subject; see http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?workid=12520&searchid=24204 http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?workid=12521&searchid=24204 |
